Mathematics Assessment Description

There are two levels of testing, A and B.  Each part takes about 50 minutes.

Assessment A:  Taken by students attempting to enter grade 10, 11 or grade 12 Technical or business math.

The test contains multiple choice questions on the following topics:

Basic operations with decimals, fractions and integers.  Percent problems.  Geometric measurement and the Pythagorean Theorem.  Rate questions.  Exponents and Square Roots. Solving equations.  Basic algebra.  Linear Systems.  Similarity and Congruence.

Assessment B:  Taken by students wishing to enter grade 12 University Math and Physics related disciplines.

The test contains multiple choice questions on the following topics:

Solving rational equations. Word problems involving equation creation/solving.  Simplifying algebraic expressions and stating restrictions where required.  Computations with similar triangles.  Solving quadratic equations. Basic trigonometric ratios. Simplifying radicals.  Solving for angles or sides in a triangle using angle laws and trigonometry.  Linear Equations.  Functions and Transformations.  Quadratic relations.  Negative exponents.  Solving Exponential equations.
Factoring.  Solving radical equations.

NOTE:  Calculators are not permitted, and cell phones must be turned off and put away during the test.

It takes a few days to a week to complete the assessment/marking process, so it is imperative to come in at least two weeks prior to a semester start date to be eligible to enrol in the courses for that session!
