A Memorable Experience

Mathematics was the one subject which I despised. I never had a passion or the patience to deal with it, but since I decided to go into nursing I needed my math skills to be above average. When I entered into upgrading I honestly thought that I would never be fully prepared to start with the credit program, after one session that thought went through the window.
Ms. Sundus was very clear with the details pertaining to each topic which had been previously difficult for me to do. She was caring and very motivating and I thank her for that. The folder was well put together and it was easy to acquire the necessary knowledge to understand each topic as I went along. It was a great learning experience that will always be with me. I made a lot of new friends who were also very supportive.

This upgrading class has helped me to make my goal realistic because I am about to do the credit test which will put me one step closer to becoming a nurse. I will recommend this program to anyone who may need it because it stands out among the rest. Special thanks to upgrading.

My Successful Story

First of all I would like to start by thanking my teachers and the school for helping me do the impossible.

I have not studied math in a very long time, almost four years and like anyone else my brain got a little rusty. I wanted to start college as soon as possible but they required math and English credits. So I got frustrated and did not know what to do. Then a friend of mine recommended this school for me, and it was the best advice I could have ever gotten! I came here around the beginning of June and had to do a math test, and failed. They said I needed to upgrade and for a girl like me who wanted to apply for college as soon as possible that was not very good news to hear. However I set my mind to do whatever it takes to get to grade 12 level in 10 weeks, which at the time I thought was impossible because of the score I received on my test. Again thanks to my amazing teacher Sundus Mahdi and my friend I have made here. I reached my goal here which was reaching grade 12 level mathematics and English. It only took 10 weeks and when I heard that it took most people a year or two to accomplish their goal even if they were at the same level as me, I was impressed by myself. Now I can start my grade 12 credits and I believe I can even apply for college and take the “mature student test” which is great to know. Thanks for all the information I got here!

As a girl who hopefully will be working in “office administration”, I am pretty sure I will never forget the useful information I have learned here and will definitely be using it on a daily basis in the field I would like to enter. Multiplication, division, fractions, percentages and many more are my strengths now and can apply my success at my workplace.

So now all I can do is thank everyone here who helped me out and pass on the advice my friend gave me  … a second chance to change my whole life by coming here to upgrade myself in math and English. Just know that it is never too late to go back and learn something new or old. There is always hope and there is a great team out there wiling to help you out as much as they can. Hopefully you will reach your goal and dream just like I did.

Why this has been such a positive experience for me?

After graduating college with a three-year accounting diploma I decided to go back to school to pursue something further for my personal satisfaction and development.

I decided to apply to university for secondary major which required more communication with people on an everyday basis.  In order to receive acceptance in an undergraduate program, I realized that I had to upgrade a mark in a high school course which focused on Math-Algebra. I was motivated to get this done, and came across the Literacy and Basic Skills program which has helped me to focus on my career and future goals.

This course has allowed me to review my math skills and has introduced me to many motivated people. Since joining this class, I have realized that it is never too late to follow your desired career path. The lessons that we have covered in this course will assist me in my undergraduate program and have given me the confidence to succeed. Moreover, taking this class has prepared me to start school in April 2009. Since it has been three years since I have been a student, I am very excited and eager to take on a new challenge. I am certain that I made the right decision to enroll in this course as it has only given me more encouragement to pursue further education.
