What is taught?
The focus is on reading, writing and mathematics. The program has in-class assignments, including journal writing that helps students reflect on their success and plan their next steps for continued improvement. In addition, students participate in field trips during the summer program.

Program goals
Our program goals are to:
  • improve student literacy and math
  • improve learning skills, such as regular homework completion
  • increase self-esteem, motivation and improve student confidence
Who is eligible to attend?
Only students registered in the Peel District School Board may attend Camp I Can.  Students who qualify for Camp I Can are:
  • in grade 7 or 8 and are achieving level two overall
  • ESL students at stage one or stage two

How is the program organized?
There are two Camp I Can programs. The first runs for three full days during March Break. The program is taught with a focus on learning through technology. The second program runs half-days for approximately four weeks during the summer, from Monday to Friday. With a maximum of 15 students, the classes are smaller than those in the regular day school, therefore providing more personalized instruction.

The summer program takes place in different locations in Peel each year. You must contact your child’s school for more information.

When do classes take place?
The classes take place during March Break and July. Parents will be advised of the start and end dates.

How do students register?
Students may register if recommended by their home room teacher or guidance counsellor.
