CONVENTION POLICY FOR TRUSTEES

Statement of Policy

In order to provide opportunities for trustees to gain a greater depth of knowledge and experience and to keep abreast of current developments relative to their work in the school system, the Peel District School Board approves a policy authorizing trustee attendance at courses, conventions, and seminars in accordance with the approved regulations.

January 4, 2006t">Utilization of this Policy is subject to budget limitations as established in the annual estimates.

1.       Whenever possible, a Trustee who attends a conference or convention should make available to Trustees not in attendance copies of the conference working papers, and if requested, should submit to the Board:

 

          (a)      a written overview of the conference or convention, and

 

          (b)      a report on any major decisions or directions taken at the conference or convention that could affect or cause to affect the structure or workings of the Board.

 

The written overview and/or report should be made available to the Board not later than the second Board meeting following a Trustee's return; in the event that two or more trustees attend the same conference or convention, a joint report may be prepared.

 

 

2.       Annually the Board will review budgets as follows:

 

          (a)      Each Trustee will be reimbursed for expenses up to $2000 to attend   conferences and conventions.

 

          (b)      An amount determined annually to allow Trustee attendance at functions they must attend because they are executive members of a provincial body of which this Board is a member, or are directed by the Board to attend.

 

          (c)      An amount determined annually to provide for attendance at approved activities by non-Trustee members of legislated committees, e.g. Special Education Advisory Committee.

 

          (d)      An amount determined, at the beginning of each electoral term, to cover the registration costs for newly-elected trustees to attend one conference for new trustees; additional costs to be paid out of the individual trustee's conference allowance.

 

 

3.       Reimbursement of expenses incurred will be in accordance with Operating Procedure - School Services & Staff Development 19.
