Peel board custodians
Keeping our schools safe and clean
The Peel District School Board's custodians play a major role in maintaining our 220 schools and other board facilities. The custodian's responsibilities include:
- maintaining and cleaning schools
- monitoring part-time school attendants
- maintaining school grounds (cutting grass, snow removal, sanding, etc.)
- performing inspections required by legislations (e.g. fire equipment inspection)
- operating and monitoring building mechanical systems
- performing daily inspections to ensure buildings and grounds are safe for students and staff
- performing routine maintenance functions (e.g. making minor repairs, changing filters)
Custodians are allocated based on the square footage of each location. In general, there are an average of four custodians per secondary school and 2 custodians per elementary school. The following is a break-down of our custodial staff:
