Report Card for Student Success

The Report Card for Student Success is the strategic plan for the Peel board, based on a proven, research-based methodology called the balanced scorecard. Its power is in using data to transform our strategic plan into action. It demonstrates the cause-and-effect relationship between our actions and what we're trying to achieve—is what we are doing having a direct impact on what we are trying to achieve?

The Report Card for Student Success shows us whether our actions are having an impact, because each goal clearly sets out targets for improvement.

Complete information is available at www.reportcardforstudentsuccess.org. On this website, visitors will find:

  • status of each of our goals—are we on target for each goal
  • trend data showing our progress on achieving each target
  • detailed plans for each project
  • archived information of previous projects
  • more information about the balanced scorecard

There are eight goals in the strategic plan. The goals represent the most important areas of focus for our board. We developed our goals based on broad consultation with and consensus from all of our stakeholders.

Each goal also has an indicator—how we will measure our performance on that goal, compared to our expected results. Each indicator is carefully chosen because it is a representative measure that will give us a reliable indication of how well we are achieving the intended outcomes for each goal.

To go with each indicator is a target—our desired level of performance on that indicator. Before deciding on each target, the board collected and analyzed baseline data for six months. Then we developed our targets by considering what would be a reasonable, attainable level of progress in a three-year period.

For each goal, we deliberately chose specific projects that we believe will have greatest impact on the outcome we are trying to achieve. By aligning and focusing the work at all levels of the board, we can harness the energy of the whole board to achieve our goals. Projects have clear time lines for their start and completion, and they are regularly reviewed.

With the indicators and targets, we can demonstrate our progress over time. For each goal, we can show whether we are on target, above target or below.

Our Mission Statement, Vision and Values

One of the tasks of strategic planning was to capture the spirit of the Peel public school system in a mission statement. A statement of the board's vision encompassed the direction for the future expressed by students, staff and the community. The statement of the board's values put into words the beliefs that will guide our actions and demonstrate our spirit.

Mission: Lifelong Learning: Striving to be the Best
Vision: Service Leadership Success
Values: Caring Adaptability Teamwork

We implement our goals and priorities through the School Success Planning process.
