Description of community agency/organization:
West Mississauga Mompreneurs organizes tradeshow events, allowing local moms with small businesses to showcase their work, with show admission proceeds go towards supporting local charities.
What you will do:
Receive recognized community volunteer hours by assisting in a variety of tasks on the day of the event, including directing show exhibitor and visitor traffic in the parking area, helping show exhibitors unload boxes from their cars, assisting at the registration desk, greeting visitors, answering inquiries from the public, helping the Eden Community Food Bank staff in receiving food items and monetary donations from visitors, helping with prize draw entries.
Skills required:
Good verbal communication skills; pleasant and helpful; always takes the initiative to approach show exhibitors and the public to see if they needed any assistance
Skills you will learn:
You will learn some of the most important interpersonal skills that are regarded as critical soft skills by employers, which includes learning how to communicate well with many types of people, how to greet people, how to stay organized, how to show you are taking initiative.
Length of time required:
Sunday, November 13, 2011 from 8 am to 5 pm (You will receive more than 9 hours of community volunteer hours due to pre-event communications – most will be done via email communications)
